What You’ll Need

  • 1 upgraded replacement battery (530mAh 3.7V)

Tools and supplies (not included):

  • Heat gun
  • Small thin blade
  • Spudger
  • Small screwdriver
  • Soldering iron and solder
  • Tape
  • Adhesive or super glue (optional)

Step-by-Step: How to Replace the Bose QC45 Battery

Step 1: Remove the left ear pad and mat

Gently pinch the left ear pad and pull it away from the ear cup to unclip it. Peel off the fabric mat underneath.

Step 2: Loosen the battery cover

Warm the plastic battery cover with a heat gun (about 200 degrees), then cut through the softened adhesive with a small thin blade.

Tip: Keep the heat on the plastic cover, not inside the ear cup.

Step 3: Pry off the battery cover

Slide a spudger in and pry the cover up slowly, working all the way around.

Tip: Go slowly so you don’t crack the cover.

Step 4: Remove the back cover

Remove the two screws and gently lift off the back cover. The ribbon connector can stay attached.

Step 5: Desolder the wires

Make a diagram of the wire order: white, black and red. Desolder each wire, then cover the red wire’s contact point with tape so nothing shorts.

Step 6: Remove the old battery

Flip the cover back over and loosen the battery’s adhesive with something dull, then lift it out and pull the wires through the hole.

Tip: Be careful not to puncture the battery.

Step 7: Install the new battery

Keep the new battery’s red wire covered. Feed all three wires through the hole and set the battery in place.

Step 8: Solder and test

Solder the white, black and red wires to their contact points and give each a gentle tug. Plug in the charger to confirm power is going through, then unplug it.

Tip: If you’re new to soldering, take your time and avoid melting nearby plastic.

Step 9: Reassemble

Set the back cover flush and reinstall the screws. Reattach the battery cover using the old adhesive warmed with a little heat, or super glue, and hold pressure briefly. Stick on a new mat, then push the ear pad’s rim under the small plastic clips all the way around.

Why Do Headphone Batteries Wear Out?

Lithium batteries lose capacity with every charge cycle. After a few years your QC45s won’t last as long between charges. That’s normal battery aging.

Our upgraded battery is 530mAh, compared to the original 445mAh.
